Class Pets May Need Dwarf Hamster Supplies

When having class pets year round it will mean that teachers will need to make sure they have enough dwarf hamster supplies on hand. Not only will they need as many supplies as possible they will also need to make sure that the pet is taken care of when school is not in session. There are several reasons why teachers may choose to have these great pets in the classroom. Every child will love playing with them as well as being responsible to help take care of the class pet. When taking one of these pets into a classroom full of children it will be important to make sure that the pet is used to being played with on a daily basis.

Some of the dwarf hamster supplies that teachers need to keep on hand will help in keeping the cage as clean as possible. Choosing the right bedding is important in keeping these pets healthy. It is important not to put Cedar shavings in the pet hamster’s cage as it can cause breathing problems to each of these pets, using Pine shavings can cause other health problems such as kidney and liver problems. Aspen shavings as well as newspaper are recommended as the supplies to use for the dwarf hamster’s bedding. They enjoy burrowing in the paper and the Aspen shavings do not have the irritating oils the Cedar and Pine shavings have. In a classroom setting the Aspen shavings and the newspaper will also be less irritating on those children who have allergies as well.

Weekly cleanings of the pet’s cage will mean needing the right cleaning supplies. Many teachers assign different tasks of taking care of the pet to different children every week. This is a great way in teaching responsibility and team work in working together in getting the cage cleaned from week to week. One of the cage cleaning responsibilities will be taking care of the pet while their cage is being cleaned or having another place to put them safely. It is important to remove some of the bedding from the top and save it. This is so it can be place back into the cage once it is cleaned so the pet can smell their scent and know that they are home. Some of the supplies that will be needed to clean the cage safely include white vinegar to be used on the bottom of the cage, water and soap. There are soaps that are available to choose from to purchase some pet owner’s have their own recipes for the cleanest and safest way to clean the cages.

Teachers may also assign or reward students daily with allowing them to feed the pet as well as clean their water bottle. Cleaning the water bottle and refilling it daily will keep the bacteria away from the pet. This brings up a few other dwarf hamster supplies that teachers will want to make sure they have on hand. Food, food bowls and water bottles are very important in the daily care of these pets. Some may even want to have a second water bottle to switch out or in case the primary water bottle is damaged in any way.

When it is time to take the pet or pets home for the summer will mean making sure that all the dwarf hamster supplies go with the pet.
